Behind the tech: How Security+ 2.0 keeps your garage safe and secure

Chamberlain is always developing new technologies and systems to improve home access, security and safety for our customers.

Our commitment to providing the highest level of security available in Australia and New Zealand started in 1993 with the introduction of our patented remote technology.

Since then, our garage door opener remote technology has grown from strength to strength. We sat down with product marketing manager, James Diab, to learn more about the premium features of Security+ 2.0 and how it protects your home and garage.

What is Security+ 2.0?

Have you ever wondered why your garage door opener only opens your door, and not your neighbours?

Chamberlain’s patented Security+ 2.0 technology is designed to communicate on multiple frequencies and uses a unique code every time the garage door remote button is pressed; selecting one code from 100 billion encrypted rolling codes generated when customers use their garage door opener.

This means only remotes that you have programmed can open your garage door.

What else does Security+ 2.0 do?

In our wireless world there are many digital devices sending out infrared signals, such as security systems, Bluetooth car kits and remote controls.

The enhanced radio technology with Security+ 2.0 selects the strongest frequency every time, virtually eliminating interference from other technologies, so you can be confident your remote will work first time, every time.

How else can I secure my garage?

For added peace of mind, Chamberlain’s myQ technology gives New Zealanders the power to monitor and control their garage door anytime, anywhere from their smartphone, tablet or Apple Watch.

The myQ App sends real-time alerts and notifications when the garage is opened, closed or left open for a period of time. It also has a scheduling feature so the garage door can be set to close at a certain time.

Are Chamberlain’s garage door openers compliant with Australian and NZ standards?

All Chamberlain products meet New Zealand Standards (ANZ AS/NZS 60335-2-95) and on a global basis, we are always testing our products to ensure international standards are met and exceeded.

Chamberlain maintains documentation showing compliance to the latest revision of relevant standards. All Chamberlain products also go through end of line testing in production to ensure they are meeting standards and working correctly.

What if I’m not sure if my garage door opener is compliant?

For New Zealanders with garage door openers and accessories from other manufacturers, it is important to review the make, model and age of the garage door products you have in your home.

Prior to 1993, many remotes used DIP switches which were more limited and meant that a signal could potentially be received by others in the area; allowing them to open the garage door.

We encourage New Zealanders with garage doors to ensure they have secure, safe and high-quality garage door openers installed and only use genuine accessories, to ensure the safety and security of their homes and loved ones.
